AutoCAD Based Installation (Ribbon/Toolbar/Location)

Error Type: Registry problem

Description:

During the install of HydraCAD v56, the user is greeted with the message below.  Following the both sets of instructions of opening and closing AutoCAD, and running a repair of AutoCAD do not make a difference.  You'll still get the error message.

V57 install will say;

Neither AutoCAD 2021, 2022 nor 2023 found (missing registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R24.X).

Please install it before re-running this install

Solutions:

Cause:

End-user uninstalled AutoCAD 2019 then installed AutoCAD 2020 afterward.

Same can be said for HydraCAD v57 and Acad 2021 or 2022 or 2023.

When the HydraCAD v56 install is run, it's seeing the old Acad 2019 registry entries and therefore will not look for the AutoCAD 2020 paths.

The HydraCAD v57 install is seeing the old Acad 2021 or 2022 registry entries.

Autodesk didn't clean up their registry entries properly during the uninstall so leftover registry paths are confusing the Hcad install.

Solution:

See this H-Factor blog post on removing all the crumbs leftover by an Autodesk uninstalls and you may not have to follow the instructions below.
The H-Factor: How to do a Complete Cleanup of Autodesk Products after Uninstalling (blogs.com)

Step 1.

Confirm the version Windows opens when double-clicking a .DWG file.   Using the Windows Registry Editor, go to this path;

For Acad 2019 or 2020

Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AutoCAD.Drawing.23\protocol\StdFileEditing\server

For Acad 2021 or 2022 or 2023

Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AutoCAD.Drawing.24\protocol\StdFileEditing\server

Then verify the path in that key is shown correctly

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20??\acad.exe

If it is incorrect, right-click the value and update it to the proper location of the acad.exe it should be referencing.  For instance if it shows \AutoCAD 2019\ but should be \AutoCAD 2020\, fix it.  Be 100% sure that the path you're telling it to use actually exists.

Same goes for AutoCADs 2021, 2022 or 2023.

Step 2

While still in the Windows Registry Editor, go to this path for v56 install problems;

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R23.0\ACAD-2001:409\

If AutoCAD 2019 has been UNinstalled, delete ONLY the path and sub-paths at \R23.0\

AutoCAD 2020 uses the path at \R23.1\

Go to this path for v57 install problems

AutoCAD 2021 uses \R24.0\ACAD-4101

AutoCAD 2022 uses \R24.1\ACAD-5101

AutoCAD 2023 uses \R24.2\ACAD-6101

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R24.0\ACAD-4101:409\

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R24.1\ACAD-5101:409\

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R24.2\ACAD-6101:409\

Delete the path which references the version(s) of AutoCAD which has/have been uninstalled (eg.  if 2021 was uninstalled, delete 4101)

If AutoCAD ???? has been installed, confirm you have this path;

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R??.?\ACAD-??01:409\Profiles and confirm you have a path called \<<Unnamed Profile>>\

After making these changes, close out of the Registry and attempt the HydraCAD install again.
