Revit Based HydraCAD (Ribbon/Toolbar/Location)

Button: Import from the latest Toolbox

Description:

After attempting to download the Latest Toolbox, a warning appears saying the file cannot be opened.
Tells user to delete toolbox .rvt file and try again, but that does not work.

Solutions:

1.
Cause:

Hydratec for Revit 2021 is able to download incompatible toolboxes, causing this warning

Hydratec for Revit was expecting all posted Toolbox files to be compatible with 2020 and later versions of Revit.
The current version of Hydratec for Revit allows us to post newer versions of the toolbox that can be used by the newer versions of Revit and be ignored by older versions.

Since Hydratec for Revit for 2021 didn’t have that feature it mistakenly downloads the newer version of the toolbox and the fails to open it.

Solution:

Rename the latest compatible version of the toolbox .rvt to the incompatible one that was downloaded and named in the warning message you received.

This error is only encountered in Revit 2021. You can avoid this error by updating to a newer version of Revit and Hydratec for Revit. If you can't update at the moment, follow the steps below to solve this error.

For video instructions, click this link for a 5 minute video guide on solution for toolbox error.

For written instructions, follow the steps listed below.

  1. Navigate to the location of Toolbox installs, which is <installation-drive>\HES\Hydratec for Revit\Data\Families\2021
    * <installation-drive> is the drive you have your Hydratec software installed on (usually "c:\")
  2. In File Explorer: Sort by Date Modified to find the newest version appropriate toolbox.
    * In this example, the latest, correct version Toolbox is called V20-Toolbox-2025-10-14 - Improved View Templates for Better Workflow.rvt
  3. Make a copy of this toolbox .rvt file. You can do this by right clicking and selecting Copy and then Paste in the same file location.
  4. Now locate the Toolbox in the warning message. In this example, its name is V23-Toolbox-2025-05-30-TransparentPipeTags_2025-05-30.rvt
*NOTE: If you encounter this warning later, the toolbox name might be different. Pay attention to your warning message.
  5. Copy the file name of that toolbox, and rename it and add -OLD to the end
    * It should look like V23-Toolbox-2025-05-30-TransparentPipeTags_2025-05-30-OLD.rvt afterwards.
  6. Rename the correct, older version toolbox from Step 2 to the newer, incompatible one Revit is looking for, which is named in the warning message. In this example, we are renaming V20-Toolbox-2025-10-14 - Improved View Templates for Better Workflow.rvt to V23-Toolbox-2025-05-30-TransparentPipeTags_2025-05-30.rvt
    * REMINDER: These file names could be different for you, so pay close attention to the Toolbox referenced in the warning message, and which older version appears highest in Date Modified

After renaming the older, correct version toolbox to the newer one, Import from the Latest Toolbox should proceed without any warning.

You can also feel free to delete the problem toolbox with -OLD at the end.

NOTE: You may need to repeat these steps if a newer toolbox releases and causes another conflict in Hydatec for Revit, and Revit 2021

2.
Cause:

Older versions of Hydratec for Revit are automatically retrieving toolbox updates that aren't compatible.

Solution:

If you are available to update, updating your Hydratec for Revit software to version 26.1.000 or greater will fix this issue.

If you cannot update at the moment and need this issue resolved, you have to use an older version of the toolbox.
You can sign in and download the older toolbox file with this Sharefile link, provided here: Revit V20 Latest Version Toolbox Update
