For internal pipe diameters different from Schedule 40 steel pipe [Schedule 30 for pipe diameters 8 in. (200 mm) and larger], the equivalent length shown in Table 23.4.3.1.1 shall be multiplied by a factor derived from the following formula:


It’s adjusting the equivalent length for each fitting based on the internal diameter of the pipe.  For the example above, here are the numbers showing the math, where the new equivalent length is determined by multiplying the factor by the listed equivalent length
