AutoCAD Based HydraCAD Residential (Ribbon/Toolbar/Location)
Description:
Difficulty installing or difficulty opening HCAD-R after installing. This is a 40 step description of the installation process which lists potential errors and how to overcome them to complete the installation and configuration.
Installation and Configuration of HCAD-R.
After Installing AutoCAD 2020 or 2019 (this tutorial uses 2020 for all terms and images). You will first download the HCAD-R install “HydraCAD-R-Install-2019-20-2.exe” from:

Click ‘Next’
Check “I accept” then hit next.
Click “Next”
Hit Next.
Click ‘Install’
At end of the install it’ll pop up:
Click ‘OK’
Click ‘OK’
Click ‘OK’
Click ‘Next’
Choose ‘I accept’ radio button and then ‘Next’
Click ‘Next’
Click ‘Install’
Choose ‘Yes’
Click ‘Finish’
Click ‘OK’
Click “Finish”
If you get this Dialog, Click ‘OK’
If you receive this dialogue, Click ‘YES’ and let windows restart.
Find a new icon on your desktop.
Its target is:
Double click it:
If you get this one, Choose AutoCAD Application and Hit Ok.
CAD will open to this drawing:
Click “Close”
Type ‘Script’ and receive the following message.
Click the Link. http://www.autodesk.com/vba-download
If you get this message, choose a browser and say ‘OK’
It’ll take you to this website:
Scroll down to find AutoCAD 2020 VBA module 64-bit (or the appropriate 64-bit version of whichever product you’re using) :
Click AutoCAD 2020 VBA module 64-bit.
You’ll get a dialogue like this:
Click ‘Save File’ , then run it. This can be done right from the browser.
In FireFox you can click on the arrow in the upper right corner of the browser:
In Chrome it’s in the lower left:
And in Microsoft Edge or Internet Explore it’s also on the bottom:
Click RUN.
Click “OK”.
Hit “Yes”
If you get Stuck On:
Hit “Restart Anyway”.
It will automatically resume the VBA install on Startup.
Hit Install.
Hit Install
Hit Finish.
Re-attempt to Run HCAD-R from desktop icon.
Double Click.
AutoCad Gives this Error and does NOT bring us to the Configuration Drawing.
Close and Reopen Cad using the Icon again. Second time will show the Configuration dwg:
Hit ‘Close’
Type “SCRIPT” at the command line again. It’ll bring up a dialogue with “ConfigureHydraCAD-R.scr”
Double Click the .scr file.
This error appears:
Hit “Always Load”. Receive:
Click “Enable Macros”. Receive:
Hit Ok and It will close CAD. Find the HydraCAD-R on the desktop:
Icon Target has changed to:
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2020\acad.exe" -p HydraCAD-R-25 /b ConfigureHydraCAD-R.scr
Double Click. Cad opens.
Receive Message:
Hit Ok. There will be No HCAD-R toolbar. In AutoCAD’s Support file search path for “HydraCAD-R-25” Profile, it still lacks Hydratec’s paths. Looks Like:
Trusted Locations & Customization File look like.
(no instructions on screen)
IMPORTANT: In drawing 1, type “Script” at the command line.
Double Click ‘ConfigureHydraCAD-R.scr’.
Click ‘Enable Macros’
It pops up this dialogue:
Hit “OK”. Receive error “Access Denied to HydraCAD V45 Tools”:
Click “OK” and it’ll kick you out of CAD with:
HIT “NO” and it closes.
Desktop Icon Target is now:
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2020\acad.exe" -p HydraCAD-R-25
Double Click it:
Wants to open the Configure Drawing. Instead:
Switch to “Use a Template” and choose “Hcad-r_psv.dwt”.
Hit “OK”
We’re In.
You will see the toolbar for HCAD-R.
